Guest bdfsdi1 Posted June 11, 2019 at 05:04 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2019 at 05:04 PM At my last council meeting, the members of council motioned for $4K when the bill they were motioning to pay was for $3,500. Why would they do this and is it allowed?
Bruce Lages Posted June 11, 2019 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2019 at 05:59 PM Sounds like that should have been question no. 1 when debate was in order after the motion was made and seconded.

I have just reviewed the bill book from last month and noticed the check + contract listing the true price, hundreds of dollars less. Joshua Katz Posted June 11, 2019 at 06:21 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2019 at 06:21 PM I can't answer the why, but I don't see any rule in RONR that prevents authorizing more money for an expense than the expense cost. In general, I'd see myself moving such a motion if it were possible for the rest of the allocation to be needed, i.e. an uncertain cost, or awaiting a bill for the last few hours of work or something. Rob Elsman Posted June 11, 2019 at 06:39 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2019 at 06:39 PM I don't understand why, either; but, the main motion was amendable.
