Guest Jennifer Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:16 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:16 PM Our committee has 3 officers. Two of the officers feel that the President should be removed due to abuse of power. Our bylaws state that to remove a member, 1/3 of the membership must sign a petition and then 2/3 must vote for removal. How does the petition get started? Do we have to bring it up in a meeting or do we do it "secretly"? There aren't any directions on how to start the petition.
jstackpo Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:37 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:37 PM RONR doesn't say who can (or cannot) initiate a petition, so I'd say anybody can get the ball rolling. But read your bylaws carefully to see if they contain "hints" about those petitions.
Chris Harrison Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:40 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2019 at 08:40 PM RONR leaves those sort of details for the organization to figure out. I would suggest you all do some research (talk to some veteran members who have been around for a while?) to determine how it was done in the past. Gary Novosielski Posted June 26, 2019 at 04:01 AM Report Share Posted June 26, 2019 at 04:01 AM Is this in fact a committee as RONR understands the term? If so, committees do not have the right to remove their own members. They can only make recommendations to the parent body.

Guest Jennifer, can you elaborate on the nature of this "committee"? Is the committee the organization? Or is it a committee of an organization? And this president you speak of, is he or she president of the committee, the president of the parent organization, or what?
