Guest Sandra Posted July 3, 2019 at 09:21 PM Report Share Posted July 3, 2019 at 09:21 PM We have a seven member board ( including president ). What is the procedure to override a President's veto should they veto an item placed on the agenda? Can we immediately make a motion to vote to override that veto by a two-third's vote? Atul Kapur Posted July 3, 2019 at 09:28 PM Report Share Posted July 3, 2019 at 09:28 PM (edited) There is no veto in RONR. Presumably, any provisions, including how to override a veto, are in your Bylaws or your Special Rules of Order. What do they say? Did your President actually say they were vetoing the item? The President could rule that an item is out of order, which is not a veto but a ruling that is subject to appeal. The President has no veto unless your rules so provide. If your rules do provide for a veto, they should also provide the answers to your questions. If your bylaws provide for a presidential veto, which can be overridden by a 2/3 vote, then follow them. I know of no reason why the motion could not be made immediately, but I know nothing of your bylaws, so take that for what it's worth. RONR has no such provisions, and the president has no such power.
Transpower Posted July 5, 2019 at 07:56 PM Report Share Posted July 5, 2019 at 07:56 PM Members can debate whether or not to adopt the agenda or any individual item. The president has no veto power.
