Board gone astray

Recommended Posts

A few members of the Executive Board only halfheartedly believe in strictly adhering to RONR even though it is the governing parliamentary authority of the organization.

How can general members hold Board members to account? Can we recommend disciplinary action or does that have to be initiated from within the Board itself?

Two main ways to send a message:

1) Elect new Board members who care about and will follow the rules.

2) See FAQ #20 (disciplinary options).

FAQ #20...easier said than done! When you have a Board of only 9 members and 4 or 5 refuse to abide by RONR, a majority vote on any disciplinary action will never happen.

Unless your bylaws provide otherwise, it’s not up to the board. By default, disciplinary authority rests with the membership.
