Guest Jan Flynt Posted March 4, 2020 at 04:32 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2020 at 04:32 PM During this year's elections our nominating committee had a full slate- one nomination for each office. According to Robert's Rules of Order Article 11-B " The Nominating Committee's Role" Paragraph 4..... " If no candidate is found, the committee can leave the slot open and request nominations from the floor. We had a woman who was on the nominating committee for several weeks accept a nomination for herself from the floor 2 minutes before the vote. This seems unethical. Should nominations have been taken from the floor since one agreeable candidate had already been nominated by the Nomination Committee for each office? George Mervosh Posted March 4, 2020 at 04:48 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2020 at 04:48 PM I don't know what you're quoting but it is not the 11th Edition of RONR. Nominations from the floor are required even if the committee nominates a member for every position and there was nothing wrong with this person accepting a nomination from the floor. She could have been nominated by the committee as well. Here is the rule in RONR: "After the nominating committee has presented its report and before voting for the different offices takes place, the chair must call for further nominations from the floor." RONR (11th ed.), p.
