The default is that there are no term limits. Unless the organization's bylaws provide otherwise, board members can serve as many terms as they can persuade the membership to elect them to. RONR notes that term limits may be desirable, but it is ultimately up to the organization to determine whether to include term limits in their bylaws, and if so, to determine what the limit is. RONR does not recommend any particular of terms for a term limit. "Since a reasonable rotation in office is desirable in almost all organizations, a section of this article may well provide that 'No person shall be eligible to serve . . . consecutive terms [specifying the number] in the same office.'" No, under the rules in RONR, a person can serve as many terms as the voters will support.
