Guest Terry TERRYPS1@ME.COM Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:24 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:24 AM Motion for congregation to apply for a loan defeated 9-1. At next monthly meeting, a motion to reconsider was denied. Was that denial appropriate? Can a motion to rescend get the issue on the table again? Or, can the motion just be reintroduced? Hieu H. Huynh Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:37 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:37 AM Generally a defeated motion could be renewed at the next meeting.
Weldon Merritt Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:49 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2020 at 02:49 AM Agreeing with Mr. Huynh, I will elaborate a bit. The motion to reconsider was properly denied (more properly, ruled out of order). Under most usual circumstances, Reconsider must be moved at the same meeting as the motion to be reconsidered. (The few exception almost certainly don't apply here.) And the motion to rescind would not be in order, either. An adopted motion can be rescinded, but not a defeated motion, because there is nothing to rescind.
