We have a five member board.

Some of our cooperative board members announce how they are going to vote before an actual vote is taken.

For example "I'm going to vote against this motion because..."

Does Robert say anything about this?

Any opinions about whether this is a good or bad idea?

Thanks

There is nothing wrong at all with this if it is occurring while the motion is being debated.

That's exactly what is supposed to happen in debate.  People explain whether and why they support of oppose the motion.  They urge other members to vote the same way.  They explain the negative consequences that they foresee in the event their position not prevail.  They can and do move amendments to the motion, and debate the merits of the amendments in the same way.  All of this is allowed and encouraged by RONR.

Explaining one's vote is not allowed while the vote is actually being taken.  That should have been done during debate.
