Guest Mark Pasiter Posted January 28, 2021 at 03:29 AM Report Posted January 28, 2021 at 03:29 AM At community board meetings which must use roll call voting, is it allowed to combine approved motions from the same committee to be voted on at full board meeting in order to save time? Does the Chair need to ask for unanimous consent? Thank you Quote

Richard Brown Posted January 28, 2021 at 04:23 AM Report Posted January 28, 2021 at 04:23 AM I agree with JJ but will add a caveat: if this is a public body, it might be subject to your state’s open meetings laws (sunshine Laws). Those laws apply to public bodies and might require separate votes. Quote
Guest Puzzling Posted January 28, 2021 at 01:20 PM Report Posted January 28, 2021 at 01:20 PM Puzzling about a way to make the roll-call less time consuming. Maybe a signed ballot and then put the names in the minutes is a reasonable alternative. Or another way to vote that does record who voted for and against and put the names in the minutes. Putting it all on a consent calendar and then members can decide which motions need a separate vote is an other alternative (the remainder is adopted by unanimous consent) Have a close check on which motions need a roll call and which can be done otherwise. It is clear main motions need a roll call, but amendments or other secondary motions maybe can be done in another way. Quote
