How to record a Motion made, and seconded, with no vote taken.

A motion was made,  and seconded, followed by discussion.  No vote was taken and the Chair advised more research was needed and the topic would be brought back to the next meeting for further discussions and/or a motion.   How should this properly e recorded in the minutes?

I would record that the motion was postponed to the next meeting, since it seems to me that is essentially what happened.

For future reference, however, a vote should be taken on postponement, or at least the chair should request unanimous consent. The chair does not have the authority to postpone a motion on their own. The motion to postpone is also debatable.

The rule is that another question cannot be taken up until the present one is disposed of.

But what if they did it anyway? I’ve seen it happen.

Edited to add: I agree with Mr. Martin. I would treat that motion as having been postponed until the next meeting. I further believe that if other motions were then taken up and adopted without a point of order having been raised, they were validly adopted as a timely Point of Order would have been necessary.
