Guest Bdw2003 Posted February 12, 2021 at 12:35 AM Report Posted February 12, 2021 at 12:35 AM "You can't do that, but..." I thought this might be an interesting conversation for the active forum participants to discuss. What are things that can't be done, but, you can do this instead (although it might take more) to accomplish the desired result? For example, you cannot move an amendment to the third degree, but, you can suggest the secondary amendment be voted down and you can offer another. Another general example might be something where a negative vote only can be reconsidered. That may not necessarily mean you can't change it, but, you may have to take steps to rescind or amendment something previously adopted instead. Quote

In your first example, you could suspend the rules to permit a tertiary amendment. In the second example, the action would likely become null and void and subject to a point of order at a future point, in many cases. Quote
