Rob Elsman Posted July 8, 2021 at 06:53 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2021 at 06:53 PM RONR (12th ed.) does not mention re-designating a special committee as a standing committee. The two are distinct.
Richard Brown Posted July 8, 2021 at 07:05 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2021 at 07:05 PM I think it’s theoretically possible, but whether you can actually do it depends on your bylaws and how this particular Special committee was created. Your bylaws may contain restrictions, directly or indirectly, on how additional standing committees can be created.
Gary Novosielski Posted July 8, 2021 at 08:49 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2021 at 08:49 PM I don't think so, but (worst case) a new Standing Committee can be established and the same members can be appointed to it; then the existing Special Committee can be discharged from further consideration of the question referred to it, and that question can be referred to the Standing Committee. It is going to depend primarily on how Standing Committees are established in you organization. If your current Standing Committees are listed in your bylaws, then new ones can only be added (or old ones removed) by means of a bylaws amendment.
