Guest melinda dull Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:46 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:46 PM The member that is on probation and not in good standing is attempting to file a grievance on another issue not the issue she was placed on probation/not in good standing. Is said member permitted to do so?
Joshua Katz Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:48 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:48 PM This will depend on your rules around probation, good standing, and grievances.
Gary Novosielski Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:51 PM Report Share Posted August 9, 2021 at 10:51 PM RONR does not recognize a "probation" status and so has no rules regarding it. Presumably your bylaws do, however, and that would be where you'd need to look for the rules regarding the rights of members on probation. Also I'm not sure what "filing" a grievance means in your organization. There are various types of complaints that are covered in RONR, but most are procedural, and are handled by making a motion, in the context of a meeting, not by "filing" some sort of paperwork
