Guest Tally Ho Posted September 8, 2021 at 09:34 PM Report Share Posted September 8, 2021 at 09:34 PM Alterations were given out at the last regular business meeting with 7 changes. The board presented this, but said it didn't come from them. At this time, the membership is split. Moving forward with amendments at this time could create more problems. How can we stop this? Verbiage from our current bylaws is below. ARTICLE XI - AMENDMENTS AND ALTERATIONS OF THE BYLAWS Section 1. Changes in these Bylaws may be made at any regular business meeting of the membership provided that such amendments have been presented in writing at a previous meeting and provided that copies of the proposed amendments have been furnished to each member present. Such amendments shall have the concurrence of at least a 75% majority vote of the membership present with a quorum of at least 30 members present at the time of vote. For future reference, this particular forum is intended for questions about the Message Board itself. I expect a moderator will move this question to the General Discussion forum. Based upon the facts presented, it appears that proper notice of the amendments has been given. Your bylaws provide that "Changes in these Bylaws may be made at any regular business meeting of the membership provided that such amendments have been presented in writing at a previous meeting and provided that copies of the proposed amendments have been furnished to each member present." As I understand the facts, these requirements were met. So there is no way to stop this (in the sense of preventing consideration of the amendments - if by "stop this" you mean defeat the amendments, then speak in debate against them and vote against them). The persons who are proposing these amendments have given proper notice and are free to move forward with them at the next regular meeting, at which time there will be debate and ultimately a vote. It takes a 75% vote of the membership present at a meeting with quorum present to adopt the changes. If the membership is truly split, then a vote reflecting the membership is unlikely to reach that threshold. Work to ensure that enough members who share your opinion attend and vote.
