Guest Peter Belden Posted January 13, 2023 at 06:32 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2023 at 06:32 PM In our meetings agendas must be sent in advance. We follow Robert Rules. When we elect a new chair for the year at the start of the meeting can the new majority and new chair on the committee amend the agenda at the start of the meeting by majority vote. I assume so but just curious because amending an agenda seems to conflict with sending an agena in advance.
Caryn Ann Harlos Posted January 13, 2023 at 06:40 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2023 at 06:40 PM Would need to see the specific rule that says all of this. This is nowhere near enough context. A lot depends upon whether these are regular or special meetings as well. In general, if this is a regular meeting, there is no issue with amending the agenda. Nothing in Robert's Rules prevents amending an agenda, but nothing in Robert's Rules (generally) requires sending an agenda in advance. Amending an agenda does not necessarily conflict with sending an agenda in advance. While in some societies an agenda is sent in advance and is indeed intended to provide that no other business shall be conducted, in other cases the agenda set in advance is solely for information, and is not intended to prevent the agenda from being amended or from the assembly considering business not listed on the agenda. The use of passive voice make it hard to understand this rule. It seems to put the responsibility of being sent on the agenda itself. Who writes it, who sends it?
