DebbieR Posted January 20, 2023 at 04:32 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 04:32 PM New By Law Changes / Updates were being voted on. False information was given that affected the results of the vote. How can a revote be taken based on the new (correct) information based on Roberts Rules? Bruce Lages Posted January 20, 2023 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 06:43 PM You don't say whether the vote that was taken adopted or defeated the new bylaw amendments. If the vote was negative (i.e. defeating the amendments) it would have been possible to reconsider that vote but there are strict time restrictions on when a motion to reconsider can be made and it seems likely that those time limits have probably expired (RONR, 12th ed., section 37). In all other situations bylaw amendments cannot be 'revoted' regardless of the result. The only way to change what was done is to submit a new proposal for another bylaw amendment which can correct for any false information that may have affected the previous vote. Be sure to follow the procedures in your bylaws for their amendment.
Atul Kapur Posted January 20, 2023 at 08:06 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 08:06 PM (edited) Your title talks about the turnout being affected but your post just says that the results were affected. These are different errors (if they are actually errors) with different corrections. Please specify whether members were prevented from voting. Caryn Ann Harlos Posted January 20, 2023 at 09:14 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 09:14 PM If deliberating reckless or false information was given by people in positions of leadership, that can lead to disciplinary actions against them but it is not cause to re-vote the amendments. Members are presumed to research and become informed and not simply trust what they are told.
puzzling Posted January 20, 2023 at 10:37 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 10:37 PM I don't understand the situation at all. What happened? what meeting was it to start with? (membership meeting , (annual or not , is there only one membership meeting a year or more, boardmeeting or whatever) was the meeting properly called? what do your bylaws say about bylaws amendments? (quote verbatim , full text) were the procedures properly followed? we're the bylaws amendments debated or amended? Wat was the final vote result (as announced by the chair, as recorded in the minutes) what went wrong? (as much bilut dont give personal details of anybody involved)
Caryn Ann Harlos Posted January 20, 2023 at 10:42 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 10:42 PM That is an awful lot of information you are asking that does not seem relevant to the question.

Gary Novosielski Posted January 21, 2023 at 11:09 PM Report Share Posted January 21, 2023 at 11:09 PM On 1/20/2023 at 11:32 AM, DebbieR said: New By Law Changes / Updates were being voted on. False information was given that affected the results of the vote. How can a revote be taken based on the new (correct) information based on Roberts Rules? You don't say what the result of the vote was, but I assume that the bylaws were changed. If that's true, it's a done deal and there's no "revote" to be done. If you've got some remorse about what the bylaws now say, the way to fix it is to propose new bylaw changes to make them say what you wish them to say, just like last time. Only this time hope that people don't vote based on half-baked information.
Richard Brown Posted January 22, 2023 at 12:04 AM Report Share Posted January 22, 2023 at 12:04 AM Agreeing with the post immediately above by Mr. Novosielski, if the proposed bylaw was defeated rather than adopted because of false or misleading information, just propose it again following the full procedure required in the bylaws. There is no "quick redo". You start the process over again.
