Guest Robert Brait Posted April 11, 2023 at 11:00 PM Report Share Posted April 11, 2023 at 11:00 PM We have a motion in place where all non-majority votes are recorded, who is for, who is against. If a board member requests a vote by secret ballot does it Trump our motion as the vote will likely not be all in favor.
Richard Brown Posted April 11, 2023 at 11:44 PM Report Share Posted April 11, 2023 at 11:44 PM I really do not understand your question. Please explain what you mean by “all non-majority votes are recorded” along with who is for and who is against. What do you mean by a non-majority vote? How is this voting and recording done? Riding Vote? Raising Hands? Voice votes? Roll call vote? Does the secretary record how every member voted? Also, can you quote verbatim the motion or rule you are referring to? And has the motion actually been adopted so that it is now a rule?

You seem to be talking about board meetings, rather than general membership meetings. By "a motion in place" do you mean that there is a Special Rule of Order that all votes are by roll-call? Or is it in your bylaws? Or some other type of motion? Obviously if a member moves for a ballot vote, and that motion is adopted, it would not be possible to record who voted for or against the motion. The vote counts can and should be recorded. But exactly which rule trumps which depends on facts we don't have, especially in what document the rules appear. Please describe your situation, and your question, more fully. Thanks.
