Guest Wendy Posted April 12, 2023 at 02:38 AM Report Share Posted April 12, 2023 at 02:38 AM Our organization has had 5 ballots run to elect a member to a committee, but none of the 4 nominees on the ballot has yet received a majority vote, and the committee has a time-sensitive matter it must attend to. In Roberts Rules, is there a way out of this repeated reballoting cycle in which no one candidate gets enough votes?

That's an essential part of the process. Also, in the interval between ballots, candidates may voluntarily withdraw, and nominations can be reopened to add candidates (though that might appear counterproductive, it often proves not to be). No. In regard to the "time-sensitive matter," I would note that the committee is free to continue its work with its current members in the interim.
