Rhonda Posted April 24, 2023 at 05:54 PM Report Share Posted April 24, 2023 at 05:54 PM Does anyone have any insight on what is considered a separate "subject" in Robert's Rules. I am looking at the Motion for Division of a Question.
Rhonda Posted April 24, 2023 at 05:56 PM Author Report Share Posted April 24, 2023 at 05:56 PM The definition of subject is important for delineating when an incidental motion to divide the question must be made or whether a single member can demand division because there are several subjects and they must be considered separately as a parliamentary matter. The discussion of "germaneness" in RONR (12th ed.) 12:16-21 may provide some assistance in this regard. But there is ultimately no firm rule on this matter, and it will require a review of the facts of a particular case.
