In general the meeting thatcan approve the joining of a member can also terminate the membership. The board only has such powers as the bylaws give it. Without bylaw authorization the board has no ability to remove a member. For the proper method of expelling a member see Chapter 20 of RONR. If the rules in RONR apply, expulsion can only be done by the general membership, but any rules on discipline in your bylaws would supersede those in RONR.
