Guest Bill Posted June 2, 2023 at 04:04 AM Report Share Posted June 2, 2023 at 04:04 AM Our bylaws state that the Secretary shall serve as the Chair of a specific standing committee. There is a desire by this person to not serve as the chair of that committee and have another board member appointed Chair that committee. Can the officer request to be excused from that singularly duty, without having to be relieved of other duties or of the officer position? If so, this would be a request to the board, with no second required, and a majority vote in the affirmative?
Gary Novosielski Posted June 2, 2023 at 04:22 AM Report Share Posted June 2, 2023 at 04:22 AM (edited) That is something that is not within the board's power to grant. I don't think that even the membership as a whole could grant it. It would be a motion that conflicts with the bylaws. (Even if it were in order, such requests do require a second if moved by the person seeking to be excused. The only time no second is required is if a member moves for someone else to be excused.)
