Guest Quinton Mol Posted June 13, 2023 at 01:37 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2023 at 01:37 PM Our church uses RRO to govern our consistory. Is it required by RRO that the election of elders and deacons be done at a called congregational meeting? OR could the elections take place during a service, and then the election results be affirmed at a called congregational meeting? (this assumes that in both scenarios, nomination process has been opened at a previous meeting)

That time and place could be during a service. This would require a 2/3 vote, as it closes the polls. The results would be reported back at a congregational meeting. NB: The congregation must meet and adopt the motion establishing the polling time/place. Edited June 13, 2023 at 02:24 PM by J. J.

(this assumes that in both scenarios, nomination process has been opened at a previous meeting) This could be set up as long as your bylaws (check carefully) don't require some other method. You would have to figure out how you want to set up and run a polling place at the service, and make the appropriate motion(s) at a prior meeting, as with nominations. See §30. MOTIONS RELATING TO METHODS OF VOTING AND THE POLLS for a lot more detail.
