Adding an Effective Date on Something already approved

Scenario - My board approved a motion at our meeting in December. There was some misunderstanding at the time on when the motion would go into effect that may have impacted how members voted. The motion was approved and is currently in effect. They are asking if there is a way to add an effective date to it. My understanding is that they could do a motion to "amend something previously adopted" at the next meeting to include an effective date in the future. Is that correct or is there something else we should consider?

The adopted motion cannot be amended to add a proviso setting a date on which it is to become effective because the motion became effective upon its adoption.  However, if no action has been taken to implement it, a motion can be made to add a proviso stating that no action is to be taken to implement it until some specified future time.
