Roll call vote

On a contentious issue for a general meeting, how do you get a roll call vote on an issue rather than a voice vote or show of hands?

There is an incidental motion, Motions Relating to Methods of Voting and the Polls, that a member can make. It requires a second; is not debatable; is amendable. In this case, the motion requires a majority vote for adoption.

I am less certain that a roll call vote is the method you are wanting. Are you sure a vote by secret ballot is not what is really more appropriate?

The purpose of a roll call vote is to force members to go on record. As a result, it is used in assemblies which are responsible to an interested constituency, such as in elected bodies.

What sort of assembly is this?
