Guest rigo Posted June 4, 2010 at 02:01 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2010 at 02:01 AM By laws state that a member will serve in office "for one year and until replaced by another". If an officer has to resign for personal reasons before the one year in office, how is this done? Does the chair accept the resignation on his own or does the membership offer up a motion to accept the resignation?

If a body, such as a board, or the general membership, is supposed to fill the vacancy, then, yes, a motion should be made to accept the resignation request. jstackpo Posted June 4, 2010 at 02:06 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2010 at 02:06 AM RONR Section 32 goes into details. If your bylaws say nothing, send a written (not absolutely necessary, but not a bad idea) resignation to whatever body is authorized to fill the vacancy you leave behind. That body can accept the resignation (although RONR doesn't actually say that - but it should!).
