Robert B Fish Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:45 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:45 PM Yes. Members have the right to attend a meeting and that right is violated if they are not informed of the meeting. However, informing them could be as simple of putting the day, time, and place in the bylaws. Failure to notify all members of a meeting will result in the meeting being null and void.-Bob
Guest Becky Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:46 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:46 PM Yes.But I suspect you already knew that.I definately thought that, but where is it in Robert's Rules?
hmtcastle Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:48 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2010 at 07:48 PM I definately thought that, but where is it in Robert's Rules?I'm sure someone will post a citation but, frankly, this is something you don't need Robert's Rules for. Just ask your members if they think it's fair to notify some members of a meeting but not others.

Guest Becky Posted June 10, 2010 at 08:00 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2010 at 08:00 PM Agreed, however when certain members including the chair refers to Robert's Rules that they go by and only go by them when it helps them, it's nice to bring to their attention.......... Guest jsg31 Posted June 15, 2010 at 04:48 AM Report Share Posted June 15, 2010 at 04:48 AM An add-on question to this thread: Must board members on sabbatical or medical leave also be notified?
Kim Goldsworthy Posted June 15, 2010 at 09:18 AM Report Share Posted June 15, 2010 at 09:18 AM Must board members on sabbatical or medical leave also be notified?Yes.Receiving notices of meetings is a RIGHT of membership of that body.A member of the board remains a member of the board, even if:• on sabbatical• on medical leave• he has not paid his dues• hospitalized• he joins the Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force• he is overseas• in transit from Point A to Point B• he joins the rival organization• he no longer attends meetings• he writes nasty letters of complaint• he is stricken deaf, dumb, and blindRONR makes no exception to a member's status as a member of a board as to health, occupation, location, affiliation. The moment such a person is no longer a member of the board is when you don't have to send him notices of meetings of the board.
