Guest Ed Posted June 13, 2010 at 05:02 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2010 at 05:02 PM Our executive committee was called to meet regarding a protest of the previous general meeting. In order to address the protest they amended and approved the minutes from that meeting. Can that be done? There is nothing in our constitution/bylaws that says it can or can't be done so we default to Robert's Rules. Thanks for your thoughts.

Josh Martin Posted June 13, 2010 at 11:26 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2010 at 11:26 PM In order to address the protest they amended and approved the minutes from that meeting. Can that be done?I'm not sure what the nature of this "protest" is, but the Executive Committee does not have the authority to amend or approve the minutes of the general membership. Additionally, since the minutes are simply a record of what happened, I don't understand how this would address the "protest" (unless the "protest" was regarding the content of the minutes). Guest profill Posted August 26, 2010 at 05:26 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2010 at 05:26 PM Hello,Our Association's Annual Business Meeting is made up of a quorum of members and meets once a year. Minutes are taken and Roberts Rules of Order are (supposedly) followed. For the past 65 years we have had a moment to review last year's minutes followed by a motion to approve them. This occurs without incident at the beginning of each business meeting. This year, the Board of Governors reviewed and approved the minutes of last year's (contentious) Business Meeting prior to this year's meeting, and announced at the beginning of the meeting that they were already approved.1) Is this allowed by RR?1a) If not, can you provide a citation? They have actually paid a parliamentarian to say that this is permissible.2) If so, what is the mechanism by which the numerous errors in the minutes can be corrected (since presumably next year the business minutes will be approved before this years corrections can be made as a motion?)Thanks a lot!
