Guest Les Posted June 18, 2010 at 12:11 PM Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 at 12:11 PM We were at a committee meeting where the chair got up and said she would return shortly. In her absence with out chair direction the vice chair continued on with the meeting. Is this an issue?
Larry Cisar Posted June 18, 2010 at 12:17 PM Report Share Posted June 18, 2010 at 12:17 PM The vice chair, unless you have a rule stating otherwise, did the right thing. The chair cannot just take a recess when she feels like it.

The chair cannot just take a recess when she feels like it.She can't?I'm sure Mr. Cisar was using "recess" in the parliamentary sense and meant that the chair cannot make the assembly take a recess when she feels like it. If the chair leaves, the assembly is under no obligation to wait for her return.
