Kim Goldsworthy Posted July 6, 2010 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted July 6, 2010 at 05:57 PM The motion would affect an existing standing rule governing procedures on placement of equipment."Placement of equipment"?If you mean, e.g., "That the chairs and tables shall be set up 8 minute prior to the meeting," then, yes, you can make that motion without amending your bylaws or constitution, and without giving notice.... can a rule be changed at a membership meeting without prior notice via a motion with majority vote? No, not majority vote.If you are amending an existing rule, without notice, then a two-thirds vote will be necessary, or a majority of the membership vote will be necessary. With notice, a majority vote is sufficient.I assume you have no confounding variables involved, like a rule granting your board exclusive control on the issue.
