Guest Johnny Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:26 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:26 PM If there is a Motion on the floor and there has been a Second to the motion. Should the Chair position ask for Discussion? and When asking for the vote on the Motion Is it necessary for the chair to ask for all in favor and opposed? or is it ok for the chair to only ask for the In Favor Vote? Kim Goldsworthy Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:36 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:36 PM If there is a Motion on the floor and there has been a Second to the motion;Should the Chair position ask for Discussion? Yes. The phrase used is, "Are you ready for the question?" That is the official prompt for debate.Beware of un-debatable motions. You don't "discuss" undebatable motions. When asking for the vote on the Motion; Is it necessary for the chair to ask for all in favor and opposed? Most cases, YES.But see "unanimous consent"/"general consent".See "approval of minutes".Is it ok for the chair to only ask for the In Favor Vote? No.But see RONR for one rare exception to this rule. David A Foulkes Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:57 PM Report Share Posted July 14, 2010 at 07:57 PM Is it necessary for the chair to ask for all in favor and opposed? Two cents here..... in that order, and no asking for abstentions. Just FYI.
