If you have the authority to appoint you can appoint yourself, but you can't transfer that authority to someone else.

If you can appoint the members, no rule prohibits you from appointing yourself right along with the others.

And the authority for you to make a (self-) appointment (or any other kind) would be found in the bylaws or in the motion establishing the committee.

But check your bylaws - you may, as president, be already automatically appointed - "ex officio" - to all committees, save maybe one or two.

Thank you all for your responses. JD, I checked, and, according to our bylaws, I am already ex officio on all committees. That solves it!
