Kim Goldsworthy Posted August 6, 2010 at 10:08 AM Report Share Posted August 6, 2010 at 10:08 AM If a member of a large board asks for a vote on a very important topic can the president of the board just decide for himself that there will be no vote on the issue with out any discussion from the entire board? No.• No single individual has the power to override the right to debate the pending question (assuming the motion itself is debatable.)• No chair or president can unilaterally decide "No voting" just because he does not like the pending motion. It should not be necessary for anyone to "ask for a vote." - The act of voting always occurs, if there is no intervening motion, after debate is concluded. Make a motion; debate it; vote on it; - that should be pretty much automatic in most cases.Q. Is your president suppressing the will of the majority?Q. Is the lone member asking a vote on some weirdo stuff that ought not be voted on?
Trina Posted August 6, 2010 at 12:34 PM Report Share Posted August 6, 2010 at 12:34 PM If a member of a large board asks for a vote on a very important topic can the president of the board just decide for himself that there will be no vote on the issue with out any disscussion from the entire board?Just trying to clarify -- was a motion already on the floor, being debated, and the chair refused to allow a vote?Or was it more like a member saying 'we really need to make a decision on such-and-so tonight,' and the chair coming back with 'nope, not going to talk about that tonight...' ??
