Guest MBC Posted August 11, 2010 at 05:40 PM Report Share Posted August 11, 2010 at 05:40 PM Agendas in the past have listed multiple topics under each heading. Is it better to just have a sparse agenda such as: comments; approval of minutes; new business; old business; adjournment and leave it at that rather than having subtopics under each heading? Kim Goldsworthy Posted August 11, 2010 at 07:05 PM Report Share Posted August 11, 2010 at 07:05 PM Agendas in the past have listed multiple topics under each heading. Is it better to just have a sparse agenda such as: comments; approval of minutes; new business; old business; adjournment and leave it at that rather than having subtopics under each heading?Beware.Do not confuse:(a.) a standard, unchanging order of business (i.e., a list of CLASSES OF BUSINESS with no detail as to the motions to be made or entertained);vs.(b.) a detailed agenda (i.e., a list of individual motions, individual reports, which apply only to today's meeting. The standard order of business listed in RONR is memorized by the acronym "MRS SUN"1. minutes2. reports (of board and officers and standing committees)3. special committee reports4. special orders5. unfinished business and general orders6. new businessAn agenda might look like so:1. Johnson resolution2. Repair clubhouse roof3. Dance Committee report4. Guest Speaker, the mayor [...]Now, which "format" do you think you need, or want?(You don't need an agenda to run a meeting. - The chair can announce the CLASS OF BUSINESS and then prompt the members for their reports and their motions, dynamically, with nothing being pre-agendized.) David A Foulkes Posted August 12, 2010 at 02:31 AM Report Share Posted August 12, 2010 at 02:31 AM Even though Kim says don't be confused, he confused me.Yes, but he gave us (or me at least) the long-awaited spousal acronym for ROY G BIV, so for that I'm willing to cut a little slack. MRS SUN indeed!
