Guest Don T Posted August 12, 2010 at 04:32 PM Report Share Posted August 12, 2010 at 04:32 PM A 7 member board just had a resignation leaving 6 members including the President. How is a 3-3 vote resolved, or is this simply not a majority and therfore failed?

Chris Harrison Posted August 12, 2010 at 04:44 PM Report Share Posted August 12, 2010 at 04:44 PM Right, the motion fails.Unless the vote is on an election in which case no one was elected and you would keep on voting until someone was elected. Chris Harrison Posted August 16, 2010 at 01:07 AM Report Share Posted August 16, 2010 at 01:07 AM What would happen if you continue with a tie vote on a election?A candidate needs a majority vote in order to be elected (unless the rules say otherwise). A tie vote means a candidate doesn't have a majority vote thus no one is elected.
David A Foulkes Posted August 16, 2010 at 11:14 AM Report Share Posted August 16, 2010 at 11:14 AM What would happen if you continue with a tie vote on a election? You don't actually "continue", except in the sense that the election "continues" and you hold a re-vote (as many as needed) for that office until someone does receive a majority of votes. Unless perhaps time runs out and you have to end the meeting, at which point your best bet would be adjourn to a later time and pick up where you left off.
