Guest Judith Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:21 PM Report Share Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:21 PM Motion made; second obtained; discussion occurs; vote taken....in favor of motion. Board member who voted in favor then learns that information provided that formed basis for his vote was incorrect. How does he bring this action up at a future meeting to have the vote reconsidered? Shmuel Gerber Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:33 PM Report Share Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:33 PM Motion made; second obtained; discussion occurs; vote taken....in favor of motion. Board member who voted in favor then learns that information provided that formed basis for his vote was incorrect. How does he bring this action up at a future meeting to have the vote reconsidered? At a future meeting, it will probably be too late to reconsider the vote on the earlier motion. However, if the member gives official notice in advance of the meeting that he will move to rescind the earlier motion, the motion to Rescind can be adopted by majority vote. hmtcastle Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:36 PM Report Share Posted August 13, 2010 at 07:36 PM How does he bring this action up at a future meeting to have the vote reconsidered?Note that the word "reconsider" has a very narrowly defined meaning in RONR, which is why Mr. Gerber suggests that it's too late to make a motion to Reconsider, but not too late to make a motion to Rescind or Amend Something Previously Adopted (ASPA). Trina Posted August 14, 2010 at 01:28 PM Report Share Posted August 14, 2010 at 01:28 PM Also, if a motion to rescind or amend something previously adopted is made at a future meeting, it no longer matters whether the person making the motion voted for or against or abstained on the original motion (or was even present at all at the earlier meeting). Any member has a right to make such a motion.
