Guest Shawn Hazard Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:52 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:52 AM If an organization requires a Quorum presence for voting, and then a majority vote for approval of votes, what happens if you have folks who abstain in number large enough to dis-allow a "majority" in voting?Case in point:15 Members total, 15 members present, 2 vote yea, 1 vote nay, 12 abstain. Does this constitue a yea vote or a no vote?
Chris Harrison Posted September 5, 2010 at 02:18 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2010 at 02:18 AM The motion passes 2-1. A majority vote is calculated from actual votes rather than potential votes.
George Mervosh Posted September 5, 2010 at 12:29 PM Report Share Posted September 5, 2010 at 12:29 PM That's an unusual number who didn't care.......why? Or is the question hypothetical?
hmtcastle Posted September 5, 2010 at 02:01 PM Report Share Posted September 5, 2010 at 02:01 PM That's an unusual number who didn't care.......why?It's not necessarily that they didn't care. It appears they may have thought that, by abstaining, they were, as suggested, "dis-allowing" a majority vote.
