Question: Is there a time limit on how long members can talk-ask questions?

Members take more than a half an hour each to ask questions of city officials during "questions to directors" on the agenda. Scheduled Coucil meeting then delayed.

I inquired about the tme allowed....as told Roberts Rules allowed for 10 max.....is this true?

Please help me to contral chatter boxes!

Question: Is there a time limit on how long members can talk-ask questions?

Two answers.

• RONR has rules limiting DEBATE on PENDING QUESTIONS. Ten minutes per opportunity. Two opportunities per question per day.

• RONR has no rules limiting ASKING QUESTIONS. A Question-and-Answer period, if you have such a portion of your meeting, is unlimited except for your own customized rules for length or start/stop hours.

Members take more than a half an hour each to ask questions of city officials during "questions to directors" on the agenda.

Q. Is this a meeting of (a.) the membership? (b.) the city council?

Whatever body ("a." or "b.") is meeting, is the body who sets the rules for speaking (for "asking questions").

• In a membership meeting, the city council officials have no right to speak, except what the membership decides.

• In a city council meeting, the membership have no right to speak, except what the city council decides.
