Guest Frank Antle Posted September 15, 2010 at 04:37 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 04:37 PM If a club has a policy that the 2nd VP becomes 1st VP and the 1st VP becomes President, is an election for 1st VP and President required? If so can any member run for those positions?thanks

Previous notice of the election is required, unless the bylaws specifically do not require it.
David A Foulkes Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:06 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:06 PM If a club has a policy that the 2nd VP becomes 1st VP and the 1st VP becomes President,...You mean that at some point, like the annual meeting, the 1st and 2nd somehow magically "ascend to the thrones" of their respective higher-ups? Where did the President go?... is an election for 1st VP and President required? Well, since you apparently all ready have a President and 1st VP due to "magical ascension", why would there be an election? These offices are all ready filled, are they not?!? The only open office awaiting election seems to be the 2nd VP.
Bruce Lages Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:24 PM IF you read the first two replies above, you'll see that Rob is addressing the issue of filling a vacancy in one or more of these offices, while David is asking about your election process. Vacancy-filling procedures, which should be defined in your bylaws, do not apply to scheduled elections of officers. Since the sub-title of your post says 'elections', perhaps David's question is more to the point. When you say that your club has a policy that the 2nd VP becomes the first VP, and the first VP becomes the president, do you mean that after being elected to the second VP position, this person automatically moves up to 1st VP and then to president without an election?Or is this policy specifically defined as a vacancy-filling policy? Guest dan Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:50 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2010 at 07:50 PM If a club has a policy that the 2nd VP becomes 1st VP and the 1st VP becomes President, is an election for 1st VP and President required? If so can any member run for those positions?thanksThis sounds like (need more information from original poster) a "custom" rather than a policy. While such "customs" may be common, what the bylaws and governing documents say overrides any such "customs"
