Guest Robert Hiss Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:47 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:47 PM In a recent meeting the presiding officer (Chairman) seconded a motion to approve the minutes. Is this allowed?
George Mervosh Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:52 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2010 at 03:52 PM See FAQ#1, but more importantly, the minutes should be approved without anyone making a motion or second. See RONR, pp. 343-344.
hmtcastle Posted September 20, 2010 at 04:12 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2010 at 04:12 PM more importantly, the minutes should be approved without anyone making a motion or second. See RONR, pp. 343-344.Although, oddly enough, RONR doesn't have as much trouble with the motion ("a formal motion to approve them is not out of order") and, presumably, a second, as it does with the vote that would logically follow. So it would seem prudent to avoid encouraging a vote by following Mr. Mervosh's (and RONR's) advice and not make a motion at all.
