Dreams Posted October 4, 2010 at 02:50 AM Report Share Posted October 4, 2010 at 02:50 AM Hello. I am a member of a non for profit Board of Directors. This board has 16 members. What would happen if there were a 8-8 tie when we elect our next president if everyone stands firm? Can you please tell me what section this may be found in Robert's Rules 10th edition? Thank you. Can you please tell me what section this may be found in Robert's Rules 10th edition? The board would continue voting until someone receives a majority vote. (RONR, 10th ed., pg. 426, line 27 - pg. 427, line 5)Some possibilities for how this deadlock would be resolved, in decreasing order of recommendation:Find some sort of compromise candidate, reopening nominations if necessary.Postpone the election to an adjourned meeting.Postpone the election to the next regular meeting (if within a quarterly interval).Just keep voting until someone falls asleep or has to go to the bathroom.
