Guest Julie Softball Secretary

Our annual meeting is next month and after the horrendous year I have endured as secretary of our dysfunctional orginization no one wants to run for secretary. I will not keep the position either. Can our orginization function without the position of secretary filled? Or as a non-profit 501c3 do we cease to exist? What happens if no one wants to hold that position?

An attempt needs to be made to complete the election at every opportunity until someone takes the job. Someone can volunteer to take minutes in the meantime, but if your characterization is accurate, good luck finding someone.

Perhaps addressing the root problem (whatever it is) immediately would help.

Well no one can be compelled to run for office. However, for any organization to function (at least according to RONR), it requires a Chairman and a Secretary. In the meantime, at every meeting, a "Secretary pro tem" may be elected to take Minutes. Like others have stated, this is not the best option, at least it will deal with the issue for a short period of time but that root problem(s) should be dealt with ASAP.

Well, RONR says that a presiding officer and a secretary are essential officers for the conduct of business in a deliberative assembly, which is not quite the same thing as saying what you say it says.
