Guest Sara from Oklahoma Posted October 19, 2010 at 05:12 PM Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 at 05:12 PM The motion to rescind requires a two-thirds vote, the vote of a majority of the entire membership, or, with previous notice, a majority vote. More details will be found on pp.293-299.

It passed 6 to 2.Good so far. Then after discussion it was moved to rescind the already passed motion. The making of a motion should come before debate on it. the vote was 5 to 3 in favor. The vote passed, according to the president, and the decision was the original vote was no longer valid. If your organization has more than 9 members, the president was wrong, but since no point of order was raised, the rescission stands. The interesting thing is that based on the numbers, all this could have been properly accomplished by the motion to Reconsider. So, it appears that the will of the assembly prevailed. Tim Wynn Posted October 19, 2010 at 06:38 PM Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 at 06:38 PM {How}Do we know the person who moved to rescind was eligible to move to reconsider the vote?We don't. I said based on the numbers it could have been properly accomplished.6 voted in favor, so 6 were eligible to move to reconsider. 2 were ineligible.5 ended up voting to rescind, meaning they were opposed to the original and thereby in favor of reconsidering. With 5 wanting to reconsider and only 2 being ineligible to move to Reconsider, that leaves 3 eligible to reconsider who favor reconsidering... so... it could have been properly accomplished... based on the numbers (not based on what happened -- which I guess is what has Rob so steamed.)
