Tim Wynn Posted November 1, 2010 at 07:33 PM Report Share Posted November 1, 2010 at 07:33 PM Question: is a member-at-large considered an officer of the entity? Not normally, but check your bylaws; the officers are listed there.
Kim Goldsworthy Posted November 1, 2010 at 07:38 PM Report Share Posted November 1, 2010 at 07:38 PM Question: is a member-at-large considered an officer of the entity? No. Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised contains no such text which confirms this. You won't find the term "member at large" anywhere in the tenth edition of RONR.So, if you were thinking it was automatic or assumed, then think again. On the other hand, nothing in Robert's Rules of Order says that such an arrangement is improper. - The same bylaw which defines "member-at-large" and defines "officer" could very well designate one or all members-at-large as officers. But that would an unusual arrangement. Officers are usually limited to the usual suspects: P, VP, Sec., Tr.But, again, your bylaws is where you can indeed customize who's who and what's what. Rev Ed Posted November 2, 2010 at 04:00 AM Report Share Posted November 2, 2010 at 04:00 AM In some organizations that I know of the term "member-at-large" is used instead of "director." Then again, in these organizations the term "Executive Committee" is generally used instead of "Board of Directors." Don't ask me why, but is has been.
