Guest Mike Posted November 2, 2010 at 03:42 PM Report Share Posted November 2, 2010 at 03:42 PM I understand the rules regarding laying a question on the table in order to get to more important business. Is this the only object point of "laying on the table"?When postponing a question does there have to be a reason to postpone a question? Can a question be postponed for the board to "think" more about it?
George Mervosh Posted November 2, 2010 at 03:48 PM Report Share Posted November 2, 2010 at 03:48 PM 1) Correct2) It can be postponed for any reason a majority sees fit. Thinking about it more is a fine reason. (Commit would work too if you wanted a committee to study the matter and report back)

George Mervosh Posted November 2, 2010 at 04:18 PM Report Share Posted November 2, 2010 at 04:18 PM Postpone & Table.. SorryWell you said it yourself.....lay on the table is only to be used to take up something more important right then and there. For example, if considering a motion to paint the clubhouse red, and the the Mayor walks in to deliver his speech that you invited him to deliver, the motion to paint the clubhouse red should be laid on the table until the Mayor is done.If you want to ponder painting the clubhouse red until next month, and then decide the matter, postpone is the perfect motion. In all honestly, lay on the table is rarely in order in most meetings. Rev Ed Posted November 2, 2010 at 05:51 PM Report Share Posted November 2, 2010 at 05:51 PM It is perfectly acceptable, if the issue comes up at the meeting and members want to have time to do some research, for a motion to postpone the motion until the next meeting.
