Nomination of Officers

When nominating new officers for positions whose terms are about to be up at the end of the year, does that have to officially be done at the annual business meeting from the floor by someone, or can a nomination ballot be sent out prior to that meeting for members to put down the names of those people they would like to see in office. Those names would then be tallied and then an official voting ballot sent out to the membership.

Thank you.

Unless your bylaws authorize nominations and voting by mail, this business must be conducted in a meeting.

Though, of course, not necessarily at the annual meeting. Nominations could, for example, be made at the last regular meeting before the annual meeting if the organization wishes to facilitate the preparation of a printed ballot (though this would not preclude additional nominations at the annual meeting).

And note that even if a ballot is mailed to members, voting by mail is prohibited unless authorized by the bylaws.
