Tim Wynn Posted November 6, 2010 at 05:50 PM Report Share Posted November 6, 2010 at 05:50 PM After the Board passes a motion with 2 components, can the membership divide the question. The membership has to approve the Board motion. If a motion is pending, with two or more parts that relate to a single subject, these parts can be separated by Division of a Question (provided that each part to be separated can stand alone). This motion requires a second and a majority vote. See RONR(10th ed.), p. 261.If these "components" relate to different subjects, the request (demand) of a single member is enough to separate them. See RONR(10th ed.) p. 265.
jstackpo Posted November 6, 2010 at 05:54 PM Report Share Posted November 6, 2010 at 05:54 PM "The membership has to approve the Board motion. "But look closely at the bylaws (or other rules) to be sure the membership can divide (or amend) the Board motion, or whether they are (perhaps) limited to a simple up-down vote.
