Guest curious Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:27 PM Report Share Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:27 PM I am technical support for a group that is specific for native americans. they give out incentive cards (small amount) to those who attend the meetings, as a way of showing appreciation of their time. as a result, they are running out of money quickly because a large homeless population is attending, both native and non-native. a motion was made by one of their members that although all people are welcome to attend the meetings, only those with a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) card are eligible to receive the incentives and it was seconded. the vote will be held this meeting, but the co-chairs do not agree with the motion. are the co-chairs able to rescind the motion, or do some sort of action, to avoid the vote? hmtcastle Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:32 PM Report Share Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:32 PM are the co-chairs able to rescind the motion, or do some sort of action, to avoid the vote?Well, if there are enough co-chairs I suppose they might have enough votes but, no, nothing in RONR gives the chair the unilateral (or bilateral in the case of co-chairs) authority to rescind a motion. The chair can rule a particular motion out of order if it violates the rules, but not just because he doesn't like it.Finally, you should know that RONR strongly advises against have co-chairs. One is sufficient.
