Guest Suzanne Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:34 PM Report Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:34 PM hello - our nominating committee made and presented a slate of officers. The slate was not approved by the general chapter. Now what? Do we go back to the beginning?
hmtcastle Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:35 PM Report Posted November 10, 2010 at 07:35 PM hello - our nominating committee made and presented a slate of officers. The slate was not approved by the general chapter. Now what? Do we go back to the beginning? No, the report of the nominating committee doesn't need approval. Now you go on and take nominations from the floor.Or do you mean the selections of the nominating committee weren't elected? In that case, you should have elected someone else. So that's what you need to do.In any case, you don't approve or elect a slate, you elect individual candidates to individual offices.

David A Foulkes Posted November 10, 2010 at 10:02 PM Report Posted November 10, 2010 at 10:02 PM No way?
Tim Wynn Posted November 10, 2010 at 10:16 PM Report Posted November 10, 2010 at 10:16 PM The only [way] not to elect a nominee is to elect someone else.I think this particular paraphrasing of the rule (on p. 400, l. 1-4) doesn't hold up, since you can "not elect" a nominee by not electing anyone, such as when no one receives a majority.

As Mr. Mountcastle pointed out, it's not clear from your description if you're still pre-election and just missed one of your customary steps in approving candidates for presentation to the voters, or whether the election is over and you failed to elect anyone. The latter is definitely a more troubling situation.
