Guest Aimster Posted November 11, 2010 at 12:33 PM Report Posted November 11, 2010 at 12:33 PM We are in the midst of amending our Bylaws. We have 3 positions listed in an article that are not addressed in the election section. Do all officers have to be elected or can some be appointed by the Executive Board?

Do all officers have to be elected or can some be appointed by the Executive Board?Officers can either be elected or appointed (or can serve ex officio). It's up to your organization. Just make sure your bylaws are very clear (or you'll be back here in a few weeks, months, or years). Although RONR notes that most organizations will rarely have need of a professional parliamentarian, this is one time when you might want to hire one. Or find one who will work for food. Or beer (which is essentially the same thing).
Tim Wynn Posted November 11, 2010 at 06:24 PM Report Posted November 11, 2010 at 06:24 PM Or find one who will work for food. Or beer (which is essentially the same thing).I've reviewed p. 449, l. 11-13, and I don't see any mention of "food" or "beer."

Line 15 refers to "engaging" a parliamentarian and I can't think of a better engagement present than beer.
