precious Posted November 12, 2010 at 07:46 PM Report Posted November 12, 2010 at 07:46 PM If a member is disciplined by withdrawal of privileges and receives a letter on official letterhead stating such, but the sender typed the wrong date on the letter, like a year from now, it the document still considered valid and the disciplinary action to be carried out?

Kim Goldsworthy Posted November 12, 2010 at 09:19 PM Report Posted November 12, 2010 at 09:19 PM If a member is disciplined by withdrawal of privileges and receives a letter on official letterhead stating such, but the sender typed the wrong date on the letter, like a year from now, is the document still considered valid and the disciplinary action to be carried out?You mean, on the upper right corner? Above the salutation? No, an incorrect salutation (e.g., "Mr." instead of "Miss", "Dr." instead of "Rev.", etc.), or an incorrect draft date, is 100% unrelated to the adopted motion of discipline, which likely never specified a draft date of any letter. (More likely the body had specified a start date of the discipline, and not a date of the letter to be written.)

Tim Wynn Posted November 13, 2010 at 01:21 AM Report Posted November 13, 2010 at 01:21 AM We're talking about notifying a member, here, and it should be noted that such notification has no bearing on the validity of the action taken.
Gary Novosielski Posted November 13, 2010 at 01:28 AM Report Posted November 13, 2010 at 01:28 AM If a member is disciplined by withdrawal of privileges and receives a letter on official letterhead stating such, but the sender typed the wrong date on the letter, like a year from now, it the document still considered valid and the disciplinary action to be carried out?The action that is to be carried out is listed in the motion that was adopted imposing the discipline, and therefore is recorded in the minutes of that meeting. That's the official record. If the member was incorrectly notified, then a correction should be sent. But an error like that is not a Get Out Of Jail Free card.
